Meet Joe Black (Topaz)

So this was originally a test post, now it's about an idea I have for a D&D character. I'd love to be in a campaign with a dragon that doesn't know he's a dragon.
So I read through Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons and was immediately into the topaz dragons in particular and how they're into decay and death. Hence the Meet Joe Black reference in the title — I wanted a character that was like Death experiencing life itself, with a sprinkling of Everything Everwhere All At Once too.
Putting together a dragon that doesn't know he's a dragon also ties into a lot of themes I'm really into — melancholy, cosmic grief, gentle curiosity, and a deep fear of feeling too much. Nihilism learning to be optimistic. A dragon who chose to be mortal because infinity was too heavy.
Naturally, I made him a Warlock whose patron is literally himself because I feel like it also speaks to the transgender experience, which I love to explore through other mediums. This is someone whose patron is his true self and discovering his true self unlocks his full power.
What started as “hey, I want to play a dragon who forgot he’s a dragon” turned into this whole beautiful, spiraling meta-story about identity, memory, love, and choosing who you want to be when the universe insists you’re something else.
Cool, right?
